Funding for PRRT urgently needed

Currently New Zealand NET cancer patients are self-funding and travelling to Australia for their cancer treatment, personally costing them around $60,000 each.

This treatment is clinically proven to show dramatic improvement to patients, often giving them years of good quality life.

It is time Pharmac stepped up to help these patients by funding treatment available in Melbourne, and then long-term help bring PRRT to NZ.
What is the latest development?

We are quietly hopeful/nervous/optimistic right now because we have heard that the Ministry of Health, (MOH) and Pharmac are meeting to discuss interim funding for NZ patients to receive treatment over in Melbourne until PRRT can be established here in New Zealand.

We know of a number of patients who are desperately holding on as they simply cannot afford the whopping $60K for their cancer treatment, we are eagerly awaiting good news for them.

We believe our NETs patients meet all the criteria set out in the MOH’s ‘High Cost Treatment Pool’ AND we have already had Pharmac’s clinical committees recommend funding for PRRT - it just makes sense to approve this for the NET cancer patients who need it right now.
